Job Description

Ohio EPA wants you to serve in this role within the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Southeast District Office in Hocking County.

We are seeking a motivated and mission-driven individual to oversee technical staff working on cleanup programs such as CERCLA, RCRA, and voluntary action plans at hazardous waste facilities and federal sites across central and southeast Ohio.

You’ll assign and track workloads, review technical documents, and help ensure the team meets program goals. You’ll work closely with DERR and district leadership to set program goals, track and monitor program activities, and report on progress and achievements.

You’ll communicate with the public and responsible parties about compliance and cleanup requirements and work with property owners and parties involved in investigations and cleanup of contaminated sites.

Our program is only as strong as its team, and you’ll identify training needs, oversee professional development and performance evaluations of staff, and participate in hiring to ensure staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources.

You’ll provide technical guidance to other divisions, officials, the industry, and the public. As a division leader, you’ll coordinate with other agency programs on environmental issues, help interpret environmental regulations, and participate in topical meetings and outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise regional staff assigned to cleanup projects for hazardous waste and federal sites.
  • Manage staff workload and track progress to ensure timely project completion.
  • Communicate with the public and responsible parties about compliance and cleanup requirements.
  • Work with property owners and involved parties on clean-up of contaminated sites.
  • Coordinate with DERR and other agency divisions on environmental issues at program sites.
Qualifications
  • 5 years training or experience in a position involving engineering, chemistry, physics, biology or other comparable science fields, and mathematics, evaluating and approving complex engineering design plans, conducting sensitive environmental surveillance activities, or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections. AND 6 months training or experience as lead worker. Training or experience must correspond to environmental area to be assigned. Positions in EPA solid waste program, excluding those in solid waste planning unit, also require valid Ohio certificate of registration as sanitarian or sanitarian-in-training.
  • OR 12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 2, 85862.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
