About the company

We are the Heitkamp & Thumann Group: a family-owned company from Germany with production sites in Europe, North America and Asia. We develop and produce first-class precision-molded components from metal and plastic ourselves.

For example:
Cups for well-tried household batteries and battery packaging for state-of-the-art electric vehicles. From the very beginning, we support you in developing your talent. During your apprenticeship or internship, you will actively participate in the day-to-day business, take on responsible tasks and be supervised by experienced trainers and colleagues.

Your duties

As a toolmaker..

  • you produce punching tools, bending devices or casting and injection molds for industrial series production.

  • You also manufacture metal or plastic parts and surgical instruments.

  • You process metals, for example, by drilling, milling and hammering, adhering precisely to the dimensions specified in technical drawings.

  • You use measuring and testing equipment to check the dimensional accuracy of work pieces down to a few thousandths of a millimeter.

  • In addition to traditional manual machining methods, you will use CNC-controlled machine tools, which you will program yourself if necessary.

  • You assemble individual parts into finished tools and check them for correct function.

  • You also maintain and repair damaged tool parts, for example, and instruct customers in the operation of equipment.

You will find employment in toolmaking companies, in machine tool manufacturing and in companies that produce medical devices. Your workplaces are primarily workshops and production halls. In addition, you may also work on site at the customer's premises.

Your profile
  • Interest in metalworking, technology and science

  • Diligence (e.g. for the precise, true-to-size production of work pieces)

  • Dexterity and eye-hand coordination (e.g. for sawing, milling, filing and grinding metal parts)

  • Manual dexterity and technical understanding (e.g. when assembling components, performing maintenance work)

  • Minimum requirement is a good secondary school leaving certificate

  • Good academic performance in math and physics

  • fluent German language skills

2nd year of training: 1.141,78 €
3rd year of training: 1.222,24 €
4th year of training: 1.327,91 €
