We have 5 manufacturing plants in 5 countries and belong to the Alpek family. Alpek is the largest petrochemical group in America.

We are currently seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician with controls experience for our facility in Painesville, OH.

Styropek’s Painesville plant is located about 30 miles northeast of Cleveland, OH. The site manufactures expandable styrenics products used in the construction and packaging industries.

This position is responsible for troubleshooting mechanical and electrical/instrumentation issues including PLC, HMI, and DCS systems, performing preventative maintenance, and repairs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and assist in routine service, repairs, calibration, replacement and installation work on electrical and mechanical systems/components.
  • Perform and assist with maintenance activities, adjustments, rebuilding, component replacement, equipment installation, etc. on the following equipment: vessels, piping, pumps, fans, compressors, valves, screeners, & all facility mechanical systems, etc.
  • Perform PM and CM activities, adjustments/calibrations, rebuilding, component replacement, equipment installation, wirings, etc. on electrical installations such as transformers, sub‑stations, electric motors, switchgears, ATS, MCC, UPS, fans, compressors, valves, screeners, & all facility instrumentation systems, etc.
  • Read and work with blueprints, sketches, drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, instrument loop and electrical interconnect drawings, instrumentation specification sheets, work order plans, and manufacturer's information.
  • Perform and document system inspections, tests and calibrations and utilize inspection findings to determine repair requirements.
  • Participate in project teams, incident investigations, area and plant audit team.
  • Lead troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC, HMI, and DCS systems.
  • Handle logic changes, backups, firmware planning, and documentation.
  • Support automation needs during outages, startups, and production interruptions.
  • Assist with PM improvements, instrumentation, and reliability tasks.
  • Coordinate vendor support for controls related work.
  • Maintain controls standards, wiring practices, and safety compliance.
Qualifications
  • A mechanical or electrical Journeyman certification, certified welding certificate or advanced degree from a trade school OR 15+ years of relevant maintenance experience with a high school education or equivalent is required.
  • Instrumentation background with 5+ years of experience with PLC systems, including troubleshooting, designing, and programming is preferred. Experience with DCS systems is a plus.
  • Applicants will be required to achieve a minimum score on assessment tests related to mechanical, electrical, and maintenance job responsibilities to be considered.
  • Understanding of electrical and/or mechanical repair and assembly techniques, precision measurement hand and power tool use, rigging and hoisting techniques, operation of mobile crane and tow motors.
  • Demonstrate a high attention to detail.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook); SAP knowledge a plus.
