Responsibilities- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for mills and lathes using CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360 or similar based on 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, models and work instructions, including GD&T, material specifications and finish requirements.
- Determine machining strategies, select appropriate tooling and work‑holding, and define speeds, feeds and depths of cut for a variety of metals and alloys (e.g. aluminum, stainless, copper, exotic alloys).
- Work with machinists to prove out new programs, perform first‑article runs and adjust code or process parameters to achieve quality and cycle‑time targets.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues, including tool wear, chatter, collisions, dimensional non‑conformances and surface‑finish problems.
- Support setup documentation by generating tool lists, setup sheets and program notes that enable efficient, repeatable production.
- Perform or support in‑process checks using calipers, micrometers, height gauges and other precision measuring equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to review manufacturability, suggest design or tolerance improvements and participate in corrective actions when needed.
- Maintain organized program files, tooling libraries and revision control in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Prior experience as a CNC programmer in a precision machining environment, ideally supporting aerospace, defense, electronics or other high‑reliability applications.
- Strong knowledge of G‑code and M‑code, multi‑axis CNC machining principles and common work coordinate systems.
- Proficiency with at least one major CAD/CAM platform such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, Powermill or similar and familiarity with reading CAD models.
- Solid understanding of machining fundamentals, including tool selection, cutting parameters, chip control, heat management and fixturing methods.
- Ability to interpret GD&T and apply it to programming and inspection plans.
- Comfortable working with tight tolerances and inspection techniques required for precision parts.
- Strong math skills, including trigonometry and geometry, used for calculating tool paths, offsets and features.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on working closely with machinists, engineers and quality teams.
- Experience with multi‑axis (4‑ or 5‑axis) machining, probing cycles and high‑speed machining strategies.
- Background in a regulated or certified environment such as ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing or similar process‑improvement methodologies.
