Maintenance Technician I

The Maintenance Technician I plays a key role in ensuring maximum operating efficiency of production machinery and facility equipment on the night shift. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to support a highly automated cheese packaging operation, while adhering to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to production requests and provide immediate attention to equipment issues and problems that impact production.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on production machinery and facility equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of all preventive maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Create requisitions for parts, equipment, and supplies needed to properly maintain and repair machinery and facility systems.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed, collaborating to resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Support PLC troubleshooting activities as needed to maintain automated production equipment.
  • Follow all stated safety policies and procedures when performing any assignment or job task.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and policies and procedures outlined in the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program.
  • Produce work that supports products exceeding customer and consumer expectations for quality and value.
  • Apply a fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes when diagnosing equipment problems and making repair decisions.
  • Use basic computer skills to document maintenance activities and access relevant maintenance and production information.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and facility safety standards while working in the production environment.
Essential Skills
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of maintenance experience and/or training.
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Entry-level experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems used in production environments.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices and established procedures.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance work and accessing system information.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting and repair tasks on industrial equipment.
  • Willingness to work night shift in a production facility.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • 1 year or more of experience in food manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working in a highly automated packaging facility.
  • SAP experience for maintenance or production-related activities.
  • Experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems and Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Exposure to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) programs.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial setting.
  • Background in industrial electrical troubleshooting and maintenance repair.

Environment

This role is based in a highly automated cheese packaging facility where the average plant temperature ranges from approximately 50 to 60 degrees, requiring comfort working in a cool production environment. The facility is expanding and adding a new addition that will double headcount, reflecting a growing and dynamic operation. Work is performed on the night shift around industrial machinery and automated equipment, following strict safety, GMP, SQF, and OSHA guidelines.
