What You'll Do
- Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance
- Performs treatments and assists with nurse’s sick call
- Assists with doctor’s sick call
- Assists with nursing management of chronic care clinics
- Responds to emergencies providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients
- Collects vital signs and documents all findings promptly
- Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
- Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries, or release summaries
- Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services in a timely manner
- Participates in work‑related training and institutional training exercises
- Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
- Investigates and documents problem areas or concerns
- Reviews shift reports from preceding shifts
- Assists physicians with medical procedures
- Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
- Counsels and provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
- Participates in quality assurance activities
- Provides training and direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and/or hospital aides
- Serves as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters
- Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor
- Serves as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director, and/or advanced level provider staff
- Participates in group programming
- Participates in health and wellness initiatives
- Performs administrative duties as indicated
- Attends meetings
- Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
- Assumes the duties of shift charge as assigned by the HCA, making shift work assignments and adjustments as necessary
- Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
- Assists ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
- Requires current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio issued by the Board of Nursing (Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code)
- Valid Ohio nursing license required; application of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allows practice across compact states
- Ability to practice in a correctional setting and handle emergency situations
Starting pay is approximately $78,000 based on location and shift assignments.
