Job DescriptionResponsibilities:
- Plan psychiatric care of patient/offenders based on need and/or problems identified in patient/offender assessment.
- Write measurable goals and plan interventions specific to patient/offender.
- Serve on a multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team as a provider of psychiatric nursing services for mentally ill patients/offenders.
- Provide crisis intervention to patients/offenders.
- Complete detailed psychiatric screening, nursing assessments, and participate in the development of treatment plans.
- Conduct medication education and participate in other therapeutic groups (e.g., medication compliance, sleep hygiene, medication education) as assigned.
- Implement special precautions for suicide and escape and secure orders for and insure appropriateness of restraint/seclusion of patient/offenders including special needs of population.
- Observe and evaluate the patient/offenders’ physical and emotional reaction to medication and therapies.
- Submit timely reports to the psychiatrist and appropriate treatment staff.
- Document appropriate data on the patient/inmate’s records.
- Act as a mental health liaison.
- Assist psychiatrists/CNS with psychiatric examinations.
- Record and facilitate implementation of physician/psychiatrist/CNS orders.
- Coordinate psychiatric appointments.
- Provide professional nursing care (e.g., check vital signs, assess medical needs, administer medication) to psychiatric patient/offenders.
- Provide direct professional nursing care (e.g., observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients) and make appropriate referrals.
- Perform psychiatric nursing rounds.
- Provide immediate attention to emergencies.
- Complete psychiatric nursing care plans.
- Assist with orientation of staff.
- Complete miscellaneous forms and reports, including quality assurance and medication compliance.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions as directed.
Starting pay is approximately $92,000 based on location/shift assignments.
Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which went into effect January 1, 2023. The NLC allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing virtually or over state lines in 37 other compact states across the country.

Requires current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio, as issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code.
