Position Description
Kenyon College is seeking a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to provide student‑centered nursing care within the Cox Health and Counseling Center. The role is part‑time with benefits, working approximately 35 hours per week from August to May (about 1365 annual hours). The hourly rate of pay is $25 and the position starts on August 3, 2026.
Essential Functions Clinical Care- Perform focused nursing assessments, including vital signs, reason for visit, and health history.
- Assist providers (RN, NP, physician) with patient care and clinical procedures.
- Administer medications and immunizations per provider order, protocol, and scope of practice.
- Perform point‑of‑care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis).
- Provide basic wound care and other clinical treatments as appropriate.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition, including physical and mental health status.
- Reinforce care plans and provide student education related to medications, self‑care, and prevention.
- Offer supportive, non‑judgmental interactions with students navigating illness, stress, or health concerns.
- Promote healthy behaviors about nutrition, sleep, stress management, substance use, and physical activity.
- Assist with communication of test results and follow‑up instructions.
- Support coordination of care, including referrals and tracking follow‑up needs.
- Communicate effectively with clinical team members regarding patient care.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (PyraMED).
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, CLIA, and college policies.
- Assist with monitoring and documentation of health requirements, including immunizations and TB screening.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment.
- Assist with inventory management of medical supplies and vaccines.
- Support clinic flow and patient throughput.
- Provide occasional front desk support to ensure a welcoming and efficient environment.
- Assist with campus health initiatives, including vaccine clinics and wellness events.
- Collaborate with Health Services, Counseling Services, and Health Promotion staff.
- Contribute to a culture of wellness, inclusion, respect, and student‑centered care.
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based healthcare environment.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and student‑centered care.
- Experience in ambulatory care, primary care, or college health.
- Experience working with adolescents or young adults.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (e.g., PyraMED).
- Interest in health promotion and preventive care.
- Responsibilities are performed in an ambulatory health care center.
- Close contact with students may involve exposure to airborne and blood borne pathogens.
- Participation in campus health events (e.g., vaccine clinics, orientation) may be required.
- Ability to perform physical requirements, including lifting up to 25–30 pounds and prolonged movement within the clinic, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Flexibility in scheduling during peak periods or public health needs.
