Description:
Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of licensed professionals. Administers oxygen and applies sterile dressing. Inserts catheters and reinserts gastrotomy tubes. Performs wound suctioning and irrigation. Gives enemas and douches while collecting specimens. Performs dialysis treatments and monitors patients during procedures. Assists licensed professionals with physical exams and treatments. Provides first-aid and performs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in emergencies.
Administers controlled and non-controlled medications in various forms. Maintains medication accountability records, including patient charts and medication stock. Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions and behavior. Prepares and maintains related reports, including unusual incident reports and patient records. Provides general nursing, direct care, and programming assistance. Takes patient vital signs and assists with personal grooming and daily living activities. Administers topical ointments and solutions.
Repositions patients and responds to patient alarms. Makes medical appointments for patients and assists with recreational activities. Provides training and direction to lower-level direct care staff. Attends various meetings, including staff conferences and nursing meetings. Orders medication and medical supplies and cleans nurse stations and medication carts. Performs clerical tasks, including answering phones and filing. Demonstrates skill in the use of medical equipment and medication administration.
Recognizes unusual or threatening conditions and takes appropriate emergency action. Develops rapport with patients and understands instruction manuals associated with practical nursing. Demonstrates dexterity to administer injections and perform medical treatments. Possesses strength to move, reposition, or restrain patients.
