Specialized Registered Nurse (RNFA) providing surgical team assistance within the operating room and similar settings. Assists the surgeon with intraoperative procedures beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. Functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. Functions under state laws regarding surgical assisting and the state nursing practice act.

The Certified RNFA does not concurrently serve as the scrub nurse.

• Assist surgeons during intraoperative procedures in accordance with RNFA scope
• Collaborate with surgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcome
• Assist in patient preparation, equipment setup, and procedural steps
• Maintain aseptic technique and comply with state nursing practice act and facility policies
• Document surgical procedures in medical records accurately
