As a Seasonal Zipline Guide at The Wilds, you’ll oversee zipline safety and operations, ensuring that all guests enjoy their adventure while learning about The Wilds’ conservation efforts. ResponsibilitiesWe train you!
Safety Operations & Course Management
- Properly fit harnesses and helmets, ensuring all personal safety equipment is used correctly.
- Perform a complete daily inspection of all course components and gear, ensuring everything is in top condition.
- Clearly communicate safety procedures and guidelines to participant groups to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Safely transfer participants on and off the zipline.
- Conduct a course rescue takedown, when necessary, under the guidance of a Lead Guide, using the Rescue bag.
- Coach participants in proper ziplining techniques and conduct a thorough screening of course applicants.
- Model effective risk management through strong communication, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to company policies and safety protocols.
Guest Experience & Education
- Oversee the progress of an assigned participant group, ensuring their safety and enjoyment.
- Develop and deliver an engaging interpretation of The Wilds’ conservation efforts while zipping visitors through animal areas.
- Greet and inform guests about tour options, logistics, and any other relevant information.
- Act as a professional representative of The Wilds in dress, language, and attitude.
Operational Support & Collaboration
- Assist with daily housekeeping and groundskeeping tasks to maintain a clean, organized environment.
- Support other departments, such as the gift shop, restaurant, or shuttle, when necessary.
- Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with all Wilds/Zoo team members.
- Strive to further the mission of The Wilds and support the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
- Adapt to changes in the posted schedule based on weather conditions, guest attendance, and operational needs.
Education, Age, and Training Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework is a plus.
- Minimum age of 18, with a maximum weight of 250 lbs.
- CPR/First Aid training preferred.
- Successfully complete Guide Training, passing both written and on-course assessment tests.
- Possession of a valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Subject to The Wilds' Drug-Free Workplace Policy, criminal background check, and BMV check.
- This position is not eligible for overtime pay.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to perform at least one pull-up.
- Comfort and ability to work outdoors in various climates.
- Able to work at heights, including moving along cables over 50 feet above the ground.
- Ability to walk, stand, and hang in a harness for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and hike one mile per day with inclines.
Guest Service & Communication
- Experience in public speaking, customer service, or similar roles is preferred.
- Positive, professional attitude with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Positive attitude with a commitment to excellent service and upholding guest service standards.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to operate a two-way radio effectively.

- Ability to adapt easily to changing circumstances in a busy work environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
