Wildlife Education Specialist – Seasonal (Non-Exempt)

Rate: $13.00

Pay Grade: SEA | Starting salary based on prior experience and education.

Position

Description:

Under the direction of the Wildlife Education Manager, the Seasonal Wildlife Education Specialist assists with the development and daily operation of the Wildlife Center Day Camp program at Lake Metroparks Wildlife Center.

Additional Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Providing leadership, supervision, and safety for small groups (9–15 children, ages 6–15) during indoor and outdoor day camp and Wildlife Center activities.
  • Assisting in the development of wildlife-related activities, conducting camp games, maintaining camper attendance records, and leading offsite field trips.
  • Presenting interpretive programming to groups of various sizes.
  • Participating in assigned special events.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Prior experience working with children in outdoor recreation preferred.
Position Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children.
  • Ability to supervise and engage children ages 6–15.
  • Ability to build a healthy rapport with participants.
  • Basic knowledge of wildlife, animal care, or natural history.
  • Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Comfort speaking to both small and large groups.
  • Enthusiasm for working with families and children of all ages.
  • Ability to inspire interest and excitement about nature, wildlife, and the park district.
  • Ability to interact with others with tact and courtesy while maintaining professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, up to 40 hours per week.
  • Availability for occasional flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Agency's liability policy.
  • Background check required.
