Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Organic Farm Operations Manager to lead day‑to‑day farm production and seasonal staff. This person will manage crop production, harvest, wash/pack, distribution logistics, volunteer sessions, and routine property and equipment maintenance, working closely with the Chief Grower.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily farm operations across vegetable, raspberry, and cut‑flower production; execute seasonal work plans with the Chief Grower.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule seasonal crew (approx. 4 growers) and coordinate volunteer sessions (three mornings per week plus wash/pack volunteers).
  • Prepare daily and weekly task plans; delegate work and ensure clear instructions, safe practices, and timely completion.
  • Lead transplant/nursery management: seed starting, propagation, watering, hardening‑off.
  • Manage harvest, wash/pack, storage, and delivery scheduling to food pantry partners; maintain QA during post‑harvest handling.
  • Operate and maintain tractors, implements, walk‑behind equipment, irrigation systems, deer fence, and other farm infrastructure; coordinate routine maintenance.
  • Implement organic pest, disease, and fertility management using best practices (cover crops, soil testing, amendments, compost systems, mulch regimes).
  • Maintain accurate records of plantings, harvests, amendments, inputs, labor, and equipment — using Heirloom and Google Drive (Sheets/Docs).
  • Provide timely feedback to staff, foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, and support volunteer engagement as part of our community mission.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in organic vegetable production, including demonstrated supervisory/management experience on a vegetable farm.
  • Proven experience in high tunnel production and year‑round mixed vegetable systems.
  • Competence operating tractors, front loaders, bush hogs, plastic mulch layers, cultivators, and BCS walk‑behind equipment.
  • Knowledge of soil health practices, cover cropping, compost systems, and organic pest management.
  • Comfortable leading volunteer groups; strong coaching, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, self‑motivated, able to prioritize multiple tasks and remain composed under pressure.
  • Proficient with Google Drive and willingness to learn/maintain Heirloom farm management software.
  • Physically able to bend, lift up to 100 lbs, and perform outdoor labor in variable weather.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
