About the Role

Natural Resources Technician 1 within the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves
, headquartered at Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve
, assigned to Portage County

Works with customers and staff diligently to provide exceptional customer service and to maintain safe and clean environments at each nature preserve.

Primarily responsible for grounds maintenance and the general upkeep of multiple state nature preserves throughout the year, performing duties ranging from mowing to light carpentry.

Required to safely utilize a variety of equipment and chemicals including but not limited to the following: herbicides, backpack sprayers, power tools such as chain saws, brush cutters, weed trimmers, drills, circular saws, and equipment such as mowers, tractors and trailers.

Performs the removal of invasive plant species from nature preserves by approved land management techniques including a variety of mechanical methods and herbicide applications under license of commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator.

Routinely drives work vehicles, sometimes long distances, to perform maintenance and ecological management duties on state nature preserves throughout north-central Ohio.

Starting hourly pay of $20.05/hr. with multiple pay increases over your first 2.5 years of service, with an end salary of $21.48/hr.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary; valid driver’s license.
