Animal Research Technician - Temporary​/Part-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a Temporary, Part‑Time In Vivo Technician I for our In Vivo Team at our Safety Assessment site located in Spencerville, OH. A Technician I is in training to perform onboarding tasks, procedures, and cooperate in a team environment. Responsibilities include collecting and recording study data, handling and restraining animals, clinical observations, monitoring food consumption, animal husbandry, accurate data collection and reporting under close supervision.

• Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals worked with through gentle, positive human‑animal interactions.
• Train in onboarding tasks which may include animal handling, sexing, and restraint on multiple species as well as feeding, watering, and husbandry of multiple species. Responsibilities also include clinical observations, acclimation observations, body‑weight determination, and qualitative and quantitative food consumption. Specific tasks will be based on each area’s training plan and business needs.
• Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or in electronic data capture systems.
• Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality‑control requirements.
• Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

The pay rate for this position is $17 per hour. Salaries may vary based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

• Education:
  
  High‑school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred;
  Associate (A.A./A.S.) or Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a biological science desired.
• Experience:
  
  No previous experience required.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Certification/Licensure:
  None, unless required by local government.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of English.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
• Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
• Ability to ensure a safe working environment by observing all safety procedures and working methods, properly using protective clothing and equipment, and understanding and following all safety documents issued or notified of.
• Ability to ensure integrity of studies and fulfill regulatory agency requirements by performing activities according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
• Ability to work extended hours beyond normal schedule, including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts on short notice.
• Ability to work under specific time constraints.
