Quality Engineer
Plastipak Packaging, Inc., a global leader in rigid plastic packaging and recycling, seeks a Quality Engineer to support manufacturing excellence at our Plymouth, MI facility. In this role, you will develop and maintain quality control plans, lead root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to ensure PET and HDPE containers meet stringent customer and regulatory standards. You will analyze quality data, support audits, and collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to reduce defects and scrap.

- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control plans for plastic packaging manufacturing lines
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects, nonconformances, and customer complaints
- Conduct regular line audits, inspections, and testing of PET/HDPE containers to meet specifications and regulatory standards
- Analyze quality data, trends, and KPIs; prepare reports and recommend continuous improvement actions
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance to resolve process issues and optimize quality
- Support validation of new molds, materials, and processes, including qualification runs and capability studies
- Maintain and improve quality documentation, SOPs, work instructions, and inspection procedures
- Train operators and technicians on quality standards, inspection methods, and best practices
- Support internal and external audits, including customer, ISO, and regulatory audits
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean/Six Sigma tools to reduce scrap and improve yield
- Quality engineering
- Statistical process control (SPC)
- Root cause analysis and CAPAISO 9001 or similar quality systems
- Lean manufacturing
- Six Sigma tools (e.g., DMAIC)
- Gauge R&R and measurement systems analysis (MSA)
- Process capability studies (CPK, PPK)
- Plastic packaging or injection/stretch blow molding processes
- Auditing (internal and external)
