Position:
Curator of the fish collection – permanent, full‑time (80–100%). Remuneration according to TV‑L E13. Applications accepted until 17/05/2026.
- Curate the fish collection in accordance with international standards.
- Lead an outstanding collection‑based research programme on fish.
- Develop collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects (e.g., comparative morphology, genomics, biogeography, landscape genetics, ecological interactions).
- Acquire competitive third‑party funding for research.
- Publish regularly in internationally renowned journals.
- Communicate with the public and media.
- Conceive scientific exhibitions.
- A PhD in biology or a related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fish biology and curation of fish collections.
- Expertise and research experience in taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, evolution, biogeography, and ecology.
- Track record in securing external research funding.
- Track record of successful international scientific collaborations.
- Experience in science communication.
- Very good written and spoken English.
- Basic knowledge of German or willingness to learn German.
- Research programme with opportunities for cross‑departmental collaboration with existing SMNS projects, ideally including freshwater ecosystems.
- State‑of‑the‑art morphological methods for identification and description of fish taxa.
- Molecular genetic methods, including bioinformatic analyses.
- University teaching and student supervision.
- Generous core hours, flexitime, and possibility to work remotely.
- Technical assistance related to the curator position.
- Well‑equipped laboratory infrastructure (molecular, histology, digital morphology).
- Extensive modern collections as research resources.
- Core funding for research and conference travel.
- Participation in established research projects at the SMNS.
- Active network with the University of Hohenheim via Kom Bio Ta .
- Supervision of PhD students and graduate candidates.
- Family‑friendly working conditions.
- Support with acquiring German language skills, if required.
