Retail Sales Associate (Work Study)

Reports To:

Store Manager, Thriftique

Compensation: $11/hour

• Open and close the store following proper procedures documented in the opening and closing checklist
• Maintain a safe and organized sales floor
• Provide superior customer service, including answering questions about current store promotions/sales
• Hanging, tagging, and stocking merchandise
• Execute cashier responsibilities using point of sale system
• Remain current on all company policies and ensure that all policies, standards, and procedures are maintained and followed in a consistent manner
• Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, student trainees, and donors
• Stay current and up-to-date on all store systems
• Other duties as assigned

• Students must qualify or be pre-approved for the Federal Work Study program
• Passion for retail, sustainability & resale, or nonprofit organizations
• Demonstrated experience in retail sales and providing customer service
• Comfortable working and interacting with a wide array of people

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management
• Communicate on the telephone professionally
• Ability to operate point of sale system
• Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic with a genuine desire to provide outstanding service
• Artistic skills in merchandising, marketing, or fashion

• Must be able to stand for a minimum of 4-6 hours and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. safely
• Stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch on a frequent basis
• Climb a ladder and balance on an occasional basis

Students may not work more than 20 hours per week across all campus jobs during the academic year and may not exceed 980 work hours per calendar year. Student jobs do not automatically roll over to the next academic year or summer.
