Chemist I

Grade Level: 08 (Exempt)
Under direct supervision, performs Chemist job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities include planning and directing the analytical chemistry laboratories for the total organization, performing internally and externally contracted chemical and physical analyses associated with all programs, and develops and oversees the implementation of the corporation’s long‑range plans for analyses. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Performs basic chemical analysis samples in various matrices for organic, inorganic, and/or radio chemical content.
- Performs basic chemical, physical, and biological analyses to isolate, identify, and quantify components of soil, water, air, organic and other samples that may be a potential hazard in the workplace or to the community.
- Assists with analysis and tests potentially hazardous substances to identify their properties and characteristics, as they may affect team members or the general environment, or for product specification.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring accuracy and completeness of all data and work produced.
- Prepares test solutions, compounds or reagents according to detailed instructions and established processes and procedures.
- Provides assigned technical or functional support to team members.
- Performs duties of general/routine complexity in nature.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
- Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
- Actively participates in Safety Work Groups.
