Job Description – BECI CORRECTION OFFICER (250009AX)
Organization: Rehabilitation & Correction – Belmont Correctional Institution
Compensation: $24.16 per hour (step
1); $24.86 per hour (step 2 after 6 months of employment). Earn an additional $0.60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shift.
Schedule: Full‑time
Union: OCSEA
Responsibilities- Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security for the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility.
- Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
- Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
- Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation.
- Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
- Complete required reports and serve on committees.
- Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
- Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates.
High school diploma or G.E.D.; must have a valid driver’s license. Positions assigned to the transportation section may require a commercial driver’s license or a license to drive qualifying commercial vehicles. Applicants must have successfully passed the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months, or be current employees of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction who have previously been certified as a correction officer.
Probationary period is 365 days.
