Position SummaryThe Resident Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, and daily operations of a residential corrections facility. This position is responsible for supervising residents, enforcing facility rules, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is observant, professional, and capable of making sound decisions while maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the safety, security, and accountability of all residents during assigned shifts.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled resident counts and maintain accurate accountability at all times.
- Perform routine security rounds, facility inspections, and resident searches to ensure compliance with safety and security standards.
- Assist with resident admissions, orientations, transfers, discharges, and property processing.
- Transport residents to approved work sites, court appearances, medical appointments, and other authorized destinations.
- Monitor resident behavior, address rule violations, administer appropriate disciplinary actions, and reinforce positive behavior through established incentive programs.
- Participate in disciplinary hearings and investigate incidents, documenting findings through detailed reports, statements, and incident documentation.
- Collect and administer urinalysis testing in accordance with facility procedures.
- Dispense prescribed medications accurately and maintain appropriate medication records.
- Process resident requests, incoming and outgoing mail, visitation, and other daily administrative functions.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, resident movement records, behavior documentation, and other required operational reports.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and ensure housing units meet established standards.
- Review and implement updates to facility policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Communicate critical information effectively through the chain of command during shift briefings and throughout daily operations.
- Conduct and facilitate resident orientation classes for new admissions.
- Complete all required annual training and maintain mandatory certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of facility operations.
- Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of working in a secure residential environment, including standing, walking, and responding to emergencies.
The successful candidate demonstrates integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and rehabilitative environment while treating residents with fairness, consistency, and respect.
Required Minimum Experience- Must be able to grasp and apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or other program ideologies.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
