Bookkeeper (Accounts Payable Focus)

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Diesel Shop Manager/Lead Mechanic with hands‑on experience in maintaining and repairing heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge, or the ability to be trained on programs such as Caterpillar’s Service Information System (CAT SIS), Tech Tool, and TESSA. This position requires a detail‑oriented technician with strong diagnostic skills, leadership abilities, and a focus on team development.

The Lead Diesel Mechanic will oversee daily shop operations, support other mechanics through training and mentorship, and ensure that all maintenance activities are performed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy‑duty diesel equipment including Mack, Caterpillar, Deere, and Terex equipment.
  • Use CAT SIS to retrieve technical service information, schematics, troubleshooting guides, and repair procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems, including wiring harnesses, control modules, sensors, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment performance and longevity.
  • Accurately read and interpret technical manuals and service bulletins.
  • Maintain detailed service records and complete work orders thoroughly and on time.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Execute basic mechanical maintenance such as oil changes, brake replacement, tire replacement/patching, etc.
  • Serve as a lead technician and point of contact for the maintenance team, coordinating daily work assignments and priorities.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior mechanics and apprentices, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor workflow efficiency to ensure repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to plan preventive maintenance schedules, manage shop resources, and ensure adequate inventory of parts and tools.
  • Inspect and verify work quality performed by team members to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety guidelines.
  • Assist in evaluating employee performance and providing constructive feedback to support professional growth.
  • Support management in decision‑making, budgeting, and process improvement initiatives within the maintenance department.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic with specific experience on heavy equipment.
  • Strong familiarity with CAT SIS and Caterpillar equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Prior leadership experience or demonstrated ability to mentor and guide a team preferred.
  • Proficiency in electrical and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead by example.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs, bend, squat, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in shop and field environments as needed.
