The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire a Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic Apprentice out of Ruhlin's Sharon Center office.
SummaryAssist experienced mechanics with preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy equipment, construction machinery, and vehicles while developing the skills and knowledge required to become a journeyman heavy equipment mechanic.
Responsibilities- Assist with the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, construction machinery, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform preventive maintenance services in accordance with company maintenance schedules and inspection reports.
- Learn to inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, air, and brake systems under supervision.
- Inspect, lubricate, and service equipment and components.
- Check, replace, and replenish fluids and filters as directed.
- Assist with equipment inspections and identify maintenance concerns.
- Learn to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and other technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Participate in company, manufacturer, and vendor training programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Service Manager.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability and willingness to obtain a CDL and applicable endorsements.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Previous experience using tools or working with automotive, diesel, agricultural, construction, or related equipment preferred.
- Basic computer and iPad proficiency.
- Ability to learn equipment systems, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques through hands‑on training.
- Willingness to complete company-sponsored training and certification programs.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required by ODOT, OSHA, and company safety programs.
- Ability to work independently while following direction from supervisor and senior mechanics.
- Ability to perform physical work and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
- Team‑focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.
