Description: Rail Car Service Mechanics respond to breakdown service calls for needed repairs and perform scheduled routine maintenance at various customer locations on customer owned rail cars. The primary goal is to troubleshoot, repair and maintain units at customer's location when possible.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; certifications on industrial equipment is preferred.
Travel Requirements: 95% of the time (service territory is Southern Ohio, Kentucky and a portion of West Virginia).
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform basic to complex repairs on rail car movers as directed by the service department.
- Conduct thorough inspections on rail car movers to identify repairs that are needed and note all findings on work orders.
- Use proper test equipment for troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with parts department to obtain parts needed for repairs.
- Accurately and legibly complete paperwork such as work orders, timecards, etc. and deliver on a timely basis.
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude.
- Keep service vehicle clean and stocked with parts supplies; own the tools needed to perform daily.
- Comply with all quality and safety policies with company guidelines.
- Complete required training by manufacturer standards.
Qualifications:
- Experience working on forklifts, automotive, farm equipment, or other types of heavy equipment. Any hydraulic, electrical, diesel, ICC, engine or mechanical experience is preferable.
- Dependable and timely.
- Customer oriented, good people skills.
- Organized and self‑motivated.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Must maintain a good driving record.
