Title:
Social Worker - Licensed Independent (LISW) - Substitute

Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor

Job Objective
:
Provides counseling and psychosocial intervention services.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Holds/maintains valid Ohio licensure/certification for social work:
  Level 2 (Licensed Independent Social Worker). Must obtain a Pupil Services Registration or Licensure issued by the Ohio State Board of Education. Meets all qualifications and training requirements described in the Ohio Administrative Code scope of practice for social work.
• Acts in accordance with the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
• Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
• Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
• Effectively manages multiple responsibilities in a demanding work environment.
• Embodies high ethical standards. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
• General familiarity of community resources (e.g., EMS, family services, fire, medical, police, etc.).
• Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., confidence, empathy, etiquette, self control, verbal clarity, etc.).

Note:

Additional specific training may be required (e.g., blood borne pathogen, child abuse/neglect, communicable disease, CPR, first aid/injury prevention, nonviolent crisis intervention, etc.).

• Assesses the social/emotional needs of student related to learning. Enhances the lines of communication between home, school, and the community. Helps develop intervention plans to prevent or remediate identified concerns.
  • Monitors students struggling with academic and/or social‑emotional problems (e.g., abuse, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional/behavioral issues, neglect, poverty, pregnancy, self‑esteem, substance abuse, etc.). Collaborates with community resources, district staff and family members to identify effective interventions.
  • Serves as a case manager. Identifies student problems that impede student learning. Develops treatment plans that support student self‑determination. Provides one‑on‑one therapeutic services.
  • Initiates contact with parents and community resources to deal with student issues.
  • Collaborates with school administrators and staff to deal with student behavior problems.
  • Serves as an Evaluation Team Report (ETR) resource. Recommends services relevant to needs.
  • Facilitates meetings with student groups (e.g., grief/loss, stress/anger management, etc.).
  • Serves as a member of the district crisis management team. Helps develop crisis response plans.
  • Helps students make appropriate choices and improve personal skills (e.g., accountability, interpersonal communication, responsible behavior, self‑confidence, etc.). Encourages creativity, critical‑thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct and self‑reliance.
  • Advocates for students. Promotes inclusive educational opportunities for all students.
