Java AWS Engineer

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Java AWS Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity in Columbus, OH.

• Define and evolve target-state architecture for debit and payments services using modern distributed-systems patterns
• Lead domain-level technical ownership across multiple services, ensuring high availability, low latency, and operational excellence
• Drive modernization initiatives, including platform upgrades and decomposition efforts, with clear risk management and rollback plans
• Establish and enforce API governance, schema/versioning practices, and engineering standards through design reviews and reference implementations
• Improve reliability through service level indicators/service level objectives, runbooks, post-incident learning, and capacity planning
• Build and mature observability practices, including distributed tracing and metrics that cover synchronous and asynchronous workflows
• Partner with security, risk, and compliance stakeholders to ensure secure engineering practices and audit-ready controls
• Standardize event streaming and messaging practices, including idempotency, retry strategies, and dead-letter queue handling
• Mentor and coach senior and lead engineers, strengthening engineering practices across squads
• Communicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, and delivery plans to senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners

• Experience supporting debit, payments, or other high-volume transaction platforms in regulated environment is a plus

• Bachelor's Degree
• 5+ years of experience
