ODNR Seasonal Lifeguard - Indian Lake State Park

Overview

We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of seasonal (unclassified) Lifeguard within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Indian Lake State Park, Logan County, Ohio.

• Rescue swimmers in distress (e.g., enter water to aid potential drowning victims; use rescue equipment such as rescue tube, rescue board, canoe) to tow/pull swimmer to safety; perform emergency first aid (e.g., administer CPR; manage bleeding and wound care).
• Guard designated swimming areas against drownings and related accidents; advise the public of pertinent provisions of Ohio law and Department rules; request public compliance; attend training sessions.
• Complete incident report forms; inspect safety equipment for repairs; maintain swimming area (e.g., pick up litter, empty trash, check restrooms and vending machines, mow grass, paint surfaces); keep supervisor informed of maintenance needs.

• American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certification; recognized equivalents include YMCA Lifeguard, BSA lifeguard/instructor certificates, Ellis & Associates lifeguard training, or other nationally recognized equivalents.
• If required to work longer than four months, applicants may be subject to urinalysis testing for illegal drug use per Ohio Revised Code Sections 3719.01 & 3719.41. A positive test result will disqualify employment.
