Job Description
  • Full‑time with benefits.
  • Reports directly to the Superintendent and the Director of Transportation.
  • Drive an assigned bus over an assigned route according to the designated time schedule.
  • Be available for extra or required evening and/or weekend athletic and field trips.
  • Utilize routing tablets and student s to maintain accurate route attendance.
  • Comply with all Highway Department and traffic laws.
  • Ensure no unauthorized passengers are transported on a school bus.
  • Drive the route according to the route sheet and tablet to ensure consistent stop times.
  • Make a daily safety inspection and pre‑trip as required by the Ohio Administrative Code, Section 3301‑83‑11.
  • Notify the Director of Transportation if a vehicle is missing any fire, safety, emergency or first‑aid equipment or supplies.
  • Abstain from the use of alcohol, other drugs, tobacco products, or improper language while driving the bus and/or during working hours.
  • Inform the Director of Transportation about gravel needs at turnaround points.
  • Report all needed bus repairs, shortages, and/or other replacements to the Director of Transportation and the person responsible for such repairs.
  • Post student bus conduct rules in a place on the bus which is visible to all students.
  • Maintain good conduct on the bus at all times, notifying parents and the school principal in cases where a student does not accept correction or discipline, using the approved Bus Conduct Report or by personal/telephone communication. Denial of bus privileges must come from the Principal or Superintendent.
  • Remind students twice a year of expected behavior and bus safety.
  • Conduct evacuation drills during each school year, one early in the year, on school property or in areas away from highways.
  • Assist the Director of Transportation in creating and adjusting bus routes and stop locations each year.
  • Fuel the bus regularly, keeping accurate records of gallons consumed and miles driven.
  • Park the bus in a designated area.
  • Keep the interior of the bus clean at all times; sweep after each trip.
  • Keep the exterior of the bus clean. Use a pressure washer at school if weather permits, or take the bus to Blue Beacon at own time.
  • Submit to a criminal record check as required by law.
  • Have an OHID account and be enrolled in Rapback.
  • Attend all contractually scheduled in‑service and training.
  • Cooperate in any transportation‑related matters of the district as identified by the Superintendent.
  • Keep the Director of Transportation and Superintendent informed and up‑to‑date on all matters that should be brought to their attention.
  • School bus drivers responsible for an accident will require a hearing.
  • School bus drivers cited in court will require a hearing.
  • Bus drivers not complying with Ohio Pupil Transportation Laws and Regulations will be subject to suspension without pay.

Position Type: Full‑time |
Salary: $18 to $23 per hour

Job Requirements
  • Be able to accept orders and directions from the Superintendent and the Director of Transportation.
  • Be over 21 years of age and in good health.
  • Pass an annual physical exam.
  • Possess an Ohio class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements and a valid Ohio Preservice Certificate.
  • Satisfactorily pass a driving performance test.
  • Clear a Criminal Records Check as required by law.
  • Meet all other requirements of the Ohio Administrative Code and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
