Title: Bus Driver, may be temporary route—will have status to bid for continuing route as available. Generally, up to 4 hours per day, split between morning and afternoon.
General Statement of Responsibilities:
The Bus Driver is directly responsible to the Transportation Supervisor in the operation of school buses, and transports students to and from school.
Major Responsibilities:
Qualifications: (Including STATE LAW)
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to operate school buses safely under stressful situations when transporting children.
- Drivers must be physically capable of sitting for at least two hours at one time.
- Excellent visual acuity.
- Effective communication with students and maintaining control of students.
- Ability to complete forms, reports, and other basic clerical‑related activities.
- Must possess sufficient strength and ability to assist ill or physically challenged students to enter or exit the school bus or provide assistance in evacuating an overturned bus.
- Hearing capability sufficient to detect and distinguish traffic sounds to allow adequate time for defensive or evasive action if necessary.
- Seldom (less than 10%) – Lifting up to 50 lbs (emergency only);
Exposure to human‑borne pathogens. - Limited (10-30%) – Exposure to outside elements;
Lifting up to 25 lbs;
Twisting, pushing, pulling;
Walking. - Moderate (31-60%) – Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs;
Stooping, bending;
Standing. - Frequent (61-100%) – Sitting.

Terms of Employment and SalaryThe base salary range for route drivers in the Deer Park School District is between $22.51 and $27.53 per hour. Placement is determined by school district experience.
BenefitsThis position is benefits eligible, including medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D, and flexible spending arrangements in accordance with the state School Employees Benefits Board.
Retirement BenefitsPositions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12‑month period are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
