Location: Nelsonville

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet Services Manager, the Fleet Services Student Worker supports the daily operations of Hocking College Fleet Services and Automotive Technology functions.

This position provides hands‑on experience in vehicle maintenance, fleet operations, customer service, and shop management. The student employee assists with the maintenance and care of College vehicles and equipment while helping ensure a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The position offers valuable exposure to automotive and diesel technologies, preventative maintenance practices, and fleet management operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the maintenance and care of College fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities under supervision, including inspections, fluid checks, tire pressure checks, lubrication, and other routine service tasks.
  • Assist with light vehicle and equipment repairs as directed by Fleet Services staff.
  • Clean, wash, fuel, and prepare vehicles and equipment for use by College departments.
  • Assist with vehicle dispatching, including maintaining vehicle usage records and coordinating vehicle assignments.
  • Conduct basic vehicle inspections and report maintenance, operational, or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within Fleet Services facilities, garages, storage areas, and work spaces.
  • Clean and maintain shop equipment, tools, and service areas according to established procedures.
  • Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and organizing parts and equipment.
  • Answer telephones, take messages, and direct inquiries to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide customer service and support to College employees utilizing fleet vehicles and services.
  • Follow all College, departmental, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records related to fleet operations and assigned tasks.
  • Successfully complete all required training related to workplace safety, fleet operations, equipment use, and College policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Fleet Services staff.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full‑time Hocking College student.
  • Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • Must possess a valid United States driver's license.
  • Must be eligible to drive College vehicles and successfully pass any required driver eligibility or background checks.
  • Basic automotive, diesel, small engine, or shop knowledge preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling College information and records.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift and move equipment, tools, parts, and supplies up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required training and professional development assigned by supervisors, Human Resources, or the College.
  • Interest in automotive technology, diesel technology, fleet management, equipment maintenance, or related fields preferred.
