Job Summary

Elevator and Office Operations position responsible for maintaining quality, productivity, and safety while providing excellent customer service to farmers and commercial customers.

Compensation

$21.35 hourly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate Smartsoft program, entering all necessary information per load.
  • Communicate with Smithfield Grain procurement and buyers to understand grain contracts.
  • Grade grain and manage grading procedures set by SG.
  • Work with trucks and farmers to load and unload grain efficiently.
  • Operate loading/unloading equipment to ship or receive grain products.
  • Inspect facilities daily to ensure equipment is in proper condition.
  • Assist facility manager with inbound and outbound grain logistics.
  • Maintain and handle inventories to maximize SG profitability, including grain movements, condition, and blending.
  • Identify problems or improvement opportunities and collaborate with facility manager on solutions.
  • Deal proficiently with customers on a daily basis.
  • Assist in implementing safety programs set forth by SG.
  • Comply with environmental laws and procedures (SIPS) and report issues to supervisor.
  • Review emergency notification process and relevant policies at the work site.
  • Report to work on all scheduled workdays and perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Grain experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all safety policies and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication with grain customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability for extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.
  • Physical capability to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, work at significant heights, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Tolerance for exposure to mechanical parts, outdoor weather, grain dust, odors, and noise.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Vision: close and distance vision, ability to adjust focus. Frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs. Stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb over, under, and around elevator areas. Work on concrete and unpaved surfaces for extended periods. Regular work at elevated heights. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, weather, grain dust, odors, and noise. Requires working in stressful conditions, with teamwork, and on weekends and holidays.
