Construction Engineering Inspector

Job Description

The Construction Engineering Inspector will play a key role within a water resources group, supporting a wide range of water resources and infrastructure projects across Florida. The initial focus will be on providing construction management services for the civil land development and vertical construction of a new field station for a regional water management district, including administrative, maintenance, and ancillary facilities.

This role serves as a critical liaison between the contractor, client, and engineer of record, ensuring that construction activities comply with permits, meet schedule expectations, and maintain high quality standards. Over time, the inspector may also support engineering during construction, construction management, and design/engineering activities on diverse water resources and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

+ Act as the primary liaison between the contractor, client, and engineer of record to ensure clear communication and coordination throughout the project.

+ Verify that the contractor performs work in accordance with all permits, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.

+ Monitor construction schedules, track progress, and help ensure that key milestones and deadlines are met.

+ Coordinate and manage the inspection (quality control) activities for vertical and civil construction work.

+ Oversee and coordinate the submittal review process, ensuring timely and accurate handling of shop drawings, product data, and other documentation.

+ Manage the Requests for Information (RFI) process, including logging, tracking, and facilitating responses between the contractor and design team.

+ Lead and run bi-weekly progress meetings with project stakeholders to review status, address issues, and plan upcoming work.

+ Document construction activities through field reports, meeting minutes, and other project records, maintaining organized and accurate project documentation.

+ Support construction management services for the district, including monitoring quality, safety, and compliance with project requirements.

+ Provide engineering during construction support, including interpretation of plans, specifications, and design intent.

+ Contribute to construction management or design/engineering support on a variety of project types, including water control structures, flood control and water supply systems, environmental restoration projects, recreational facilities, sea level rise solutions, and municipal utilities.

+ Collaborate with and help lead a team of engineers on complex ecosystem restoration and water resources projects.

+ Mentor junior staff and support their professional development through guidance, feedback, and technical oversight.

+ Interact with clients to understand project needs, communicate project status, and support long-term relationships.

+ Travel within Florida as needed to support construction management services (CMS) and engineering during construction (EDC) projects.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or another engineering or construction-related discipline is highly preferred.

+ 4+ years of construction inspection experience, preferably supporting vertical construction projects.

+

Experience with multiple trade disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and HVAC systems.

+

Experience with vertical construction projects involving structural, MEP, and related systems.

+ Experience in construction inspection for civil and/or vertical projects.

+ Proficiency with Bluebeam for reviewing plans, documents, and construction submittals.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).

+ Proficiency with Adobe software for document management and review.

+ Ability to travel within Florida to support construction management and engineering during construction projects as needed.

+ Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with contractors, clients, and design teams.

+ Ability to lead and run regular progress meetings and clearly document outcomes.
