Job DutiesThis open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution in the Classification Department. Our mission is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors, ensuring appropriate housing and program placements. The position is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area served.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting periodic and unscheduled assessments to track inmate progress, set goals, and induce motivation.
- Developing comprehensive inmate management plans and identifying needs and risks.
- Planning and coordinating referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services.
- Evaluating reports, interviews, observations to make informed decisions on inmate management.
- Maintaining accurate records in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and other applications.
- Leading disciplinary hearings, making custody and reclassification recommendations, and handling special status reviews.
- Ensuring eligible inmates receive appropriate gain time awards.

The selected candidate must meet four of the six qualifications below or have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in case management using assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation.
- Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
- Experience applying laws, rules, and procedures.
- Experience with the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) or related computer programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.
- Experience responding to grievances, inmate requests, or other correspondence.
- Four years’ experience in caseload management.
- Four years’ experience analyzing data and/or interpreting rules and statutes.
Background Screening Requirement:
All applicants must pass a Level 2 background check per Florida Statutes, Chapter 435.
