SENIOR CLASSIFICATION OFFICER
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Okeechobee Correctional Institution in the Classification Department.
Our mission in the Classification Department is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
Join our dynamic team and make a real impact! This exciting position involves managing inmates through a collaborative case management approach, ensuring their needs are met with effective communication and resources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting periodic and unscheduled assessments to track inmate progress, set positive adjustment goals, and motivate inmates to achieve them. Develop comprehensive inmate management plans and identify needs and risks.
- Planning and coordinating targeted referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services to meet both inmate and departmental needs. Collaborate with various areas for optimal outcomes.
- Evaluating diverse information sources, such as reports, interviews, and observations, to make informed decisions on inmate management.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed inmate records in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and other necessary applications. Compile and develop records as needed.
- Leading disciplinary hearings, making custody and reclassification recommendations, and handling special status inmate reviews. Ensure all eligible inmates receive appropriate gain time awards.

- Recently Retired? - Possess two (2) years of Classification Officer experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
- Experience with file audit and custody procedures.
- Possess a working knowledge of disciplinary processes
- Capability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
