Mental Health, Crisis Counselor

PositionSummary
As a Mobile Responder, you will respond to MRT/211 calls for crisis intervention services in any setting where a behavioral health crisis is occurring, including schools, homes, emergency rooms, and other areas as assigned by the Team Leader, Program Manager, or Division Director.
Responsibilities- Respond to community‑sourced MRT calls across the four‑county area (St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee).
- Conduct an emergency mental health screening to determine level of risk and provide appropriate dispositions for individuals in severe and acute distress.
- Offer follow‑up support through phone calls and/or home visits to provide stabilization services after acute intervention.
- Support unlicensed staff in assessing risk during individual MRT calls.
- Initiate involuntary examinations under the Baker Act and Marchman Act where appropriate.
- Provide phone or in‑person consultation to unlicensed staff prior to closing a case or determining level of need and/or outcome of a call.
- Participate in on‑call rotation to ensure availability of 24‑hour consultation support for unlicensed staff.
- Work as part of a day‑shift team; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in psychology, social work counseling, mental health counseling, or related field.
- Current Florida license in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, or Psychology to qualify for Licensed Responder Position.
- Experience working with chronic and acute mental illness, behavioral disturbances, emotional dysregulation, and substance use dependency.
- Preferred experience in crisis response, de‑escalation, and previous work with diverse populations.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with 6 points or less in the last five years.
- Ability to apply Therapeutic Effective Aggression Management (CPI/CARE) techniques without limitations.
- Must pass Level 2 background check through DCF and AHCA Clearinghouse.
