Dietetic Technician
This is a para-professional position responsible for routine technical support duties assisting the nutritionist within the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children (WIC). Employee provides nutritional care and education services for WIC participants in a county public health department. Work is performed under the Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor. Employee is expected to always communicate (by phone or in person) in a courteous and professional manner.
Employee is responsible for the duties of the WIC Supervisor in her absence. Provides nutrition education for low-risk WIC participants. Provides low risk nutrition education follow-up contact for high-risk participants. Performs nutrition assessments and certifications for low-risk WIC participants. Refers high risk clients to nutritionist. Follows policies and regulations of the state WIC Program. Participates in development of nutrition education displays and materials.
Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of nutrition education activities and in the development of the biannual nutrition program plan. Provides case management for WIC participants including follow-up for specified clients and referral to other agencies and services. Orders and maintains inventories of special formulas. Coordination of WIC services with other OCHD services including breastfeeding promotion activities. Also, responsible for inventory of VOC cards.
Orders and receives WIC educational materials and EBT cards. Participates in quality improvement activities to include Performing Staff observation and completing Local agency program self-review. Prepares special reports, including the "no-show" report, and completes the required follow-up procedures for missed WIC appointments. Prepares and submits weekly EAR reports for all WIC Staff and checks them for accuracy according to established format & procedures.
Conducts a variety of outreach activities and ensure partnerships referrals to improve client access to nutritional assessment, counseling, and breastfeeding programs Responsible for specific entries into the FL-WiSE system, acting in the capacity of the official WIC person, assigned by the WIC Coordinator. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training and other professional and staff development activities, including WIC outreach activities.
Performs other related duties as required, including occasional "back-up" for supervisor and other WIC staff positions involved in the certification including Health support Worker, in the maintenance of VOC card, EBT card inventories. Prepares and submits weekly EAR reports, biweekly timesheets and travel reimbursement, according to established format & procedures. Responsible for Securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record which is stored in hard copy or electronic format.

Reports suspected breaches of security to supervisor immediately.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge:
Working knowledge of State Florida WiSE system, State statutes, rules and regulations, other state resources (Q-flow, WIC Direct, and HMS) and purchasing - Skills:
Navigates the internet, uses office suite including Excel spreadsheets and necessary systems/software and standard office equipment and supplies related to the position. - Ability:
Ability to independently manage multiple work assignments according to applicable State of Florida and DOH rules, regulations and procedures with minimal supervision. Takes direction; accepts constructive criticism and responds and implements suggestions for improvement. Communicate Effectively:
