This is a paraprofessional position responsible for routine technical support duties assisting the nutritionist within the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children (WIC). The employee provides nutritional care and education services for WIC participants and performs all duties of the WIC Supervisor in her absence. The role requires courteous and professional communication by phone or in person.
Responsibilities- Provide nutrition education for low‑risk WIC participants and follow‑up contact for high‑risk participants.
- Perform nutrition assessments and certifications for low‑risk WIC participants; refer high‑risk clients to a nutritionist.
- Participate in the development of nutrition education displays and materials, and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition education activities.
- Contribute to the development of the biannual nutrition program plan.
- Provide case management for WIC participants, including follow‑up for specified clients and referral to other agencies and services.
- Order and maintain inventories of special formulas and VOC cards, and coordinate WIC services with other OCHD services, including breastfeeding promotion activities.
- Order and receive WIC educational materials and EBT cards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, including staff observation and completion of the local agency program self‑review.
- Prepare special reports, including the "no‑show" report, and complete required follow‑up procedures for missed WIC appointments.
- Prepare and submit weekly EAR reports and biweekly timesheets and travel reimbursement claims according to established procedures.
- Conduct outreach activities and establish partnership referrals to improve client access to nutritional assessment, counseling, and breastfeeding programs.
- Enter specific data into the FL‑WiSE system as the official WIC person assigned by the WIC Coordinator.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, in‑service training, and other professional development activities, including WIC outreach.
- Perform other related duties as required, including occasional back‑up for the supervisor and other WIC staff positions involved in certification.
- Ensure the secure handling and protection of confidential information, both hard‑copy and electronic, in accordance with established policies.

- Knowledge:
Working knowledge of State Florida WiSE system, State statutes, rules and regulations, and other state resources (Q‑flow, WIC Direct, and HMS) and purchasing. - Skills:
Navigate the internet and use office suite applications including Excel, as well as relevant software and standard office equipment. - Ability:
Independently manage multiple work assignments with minimal supervision, accept constructive criticism, and implement improvements. - Communication:
Clearly convey information verbally and in writing, and actively listen to others. - Problem Solving/Creative Thinking:
Develop innovative solutions to improve organizational processes. - Customer Service/Human Relations:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and project a positive image of the Department. - Time Management:
