Special Education Assistant
The Special Education Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Director of Special Education. This role involves coordinating activities, managing communications, and assisting with the implementation of special education programs and services.
ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Support:
- Manage the Director's calendar, schedule meetings, and organize appointments.
- Prepare, review, and distribute correspondence, reports, and other documents.
- Maintain confidential student records and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Communication:
- Serve as a point of contact between the Director, staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Handle phone calls, emails, and other communications, providing information and directing inquiries as appropriate.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations and materials for meetings and conferences.
Program Coordination:
- Support the implementation of special education programs and services.
- Coordinate and organize professional development opportunities for special education staff.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other special education plans.
Data Management:
- Collect, organize, and analyze data related to student performance, program effectiveness, and compliance.
- Prepare reports and presentations based on data analysis.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and reviews.
Project Management:
- Assist in the planning and execution of special projects and initiatives led by the Director.
- Monitor project timelines, deliverables, and budgets, ensuring goals are met.
- Coordinate with various departments and stakeholders to ensure successful project completion.
Support to Staff and Parents:
- Provide resources and information to special education staff and parents as needed.
- Assist in organizing parent meetings, workshops, and informational sessions.
- Address and resolve issues or concerns raised by staff or parents in a timely and professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree or higher in education, administration, or a related field; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in an administrative or support role, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices is an asset.
- Ability to perform tasks that may require sitting or standing for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move office supplies and equipment as needed.
- This position is primarily based in an office setting.
- Occasional participation in school events, meetings, or off-site training may be required.
