Summary
Okemos Public Schools is seeking passionate, student-centered educators to serve as Secondary Business Teachers at Okemos High School. These positions provide the opportunity to engage high school students in innovative and relevant business, finance, accounting, and computer science learning experiences that prepare them for college, careers, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and success in a rapidly evolving global economy.
One position includes instruction in Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science coursework and seeks candidates with the ability to deliver rigorous, college-level instruction while fostering computational thinking, problem-solving, and student engagement. The second position focuses on Personal Finance and Accounting coursework, helping students build practical financial literacy and business skills with real-world relevance.
The ideal candidates will foster engaging and inclusive classroom environments where students are empowered to think critically, solve problems, collaborate effectively, and apply learning to authentic situations. Educators in these roles will design meaningful learning experiences aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and contemporary industry practices while supporting the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and relevant industry practices.
- Foster a student-centered classroom environment emphasizing critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Develop authentic learning experiences connected to computer science, financial literacy, accounting, business, and career readiness.
- Deliver rigorous instruction that supports student growth, engagement, and academic achievement.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of secondary learners.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and guide instructional decision-making.
- Create opportunities for student leadership, inquiry, innovation, and real-world application of business and technology concepts.
- Prepare students for success in Advanced Placement coursework and assessments, where applicable.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and equitable classroom environment.
- Promote positive student behavior through restorative and relationship-centered practices.
- Support students' social-emotional growth, well-being, and postsecondary readiness.
- Encourage student engagement in career exploration, leadership development, and future planning.
- Collaborate regularly with colleagues, counselors, career-focused programs, and support staff to enhance student learning opportunities.
- Participate actively in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and district initiatives.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with families regarding student progress and classroom experiences.
- Maintain accurate student records, assessment data, and instructional documentation.
- Demonstrate continuous professional growth and reflective instructional practice.
- Support school and district initiatives aligned with the Strategic Plan and Equity Plan.
Education, Certification & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Education, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required.
- Michigan certification endorsement required:
Business Education (GX). - Successful secondary teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching business, computer science, finance, and/or accounting coursework preferred.
- Experience teaching Advanced Placement coursework preferred for the AP Computer Science position.
- Experience with student-centered instructional practices and career-connected learning preferred.
- Knowledge of business education curriculum, financial literacy, accounting practices, computer science instruction, and emerging industry trends.
