Your Opportunity

As a Civil Engineer in Training in our Community Development Group in Okemos, MI, you will work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects, from designing civil and municipal engineering projects for highways, local roads, public utilities, parks, trails, pipelines, tunnels, renewable energy projects, and related infrastructure. You will collaborate with design teams, prepare construction plans and specifications, develop reports and studies, compute quantities, prepare cost estimates, and support construction monitoring and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform civil design and technical tasks on projects under the supervision of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project.
  • Perform field work and construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager.
  • Perform data analysis and calculations to analyze and design civil system components.
  • Collect data and gather information to support design decisions.
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, innovative, organized, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of general civil engineering design concepts.
  • Interest in working on renewables (solar, wind, etc.) projects.
  • Desire to work on projects focused on sustainability and green infrastructure.
  • Ability to collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thinking.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs, and similar materials.
  • Strong multi‑tasking, prioritization, and direction‑following skills.
  • Strong interest in community development engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Good driving record and a valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and successful completion of the EIT exam, or the ability to take the EIT exam within six months of starting, is preferred. Related co‑op/internship experience is preferred for new graduates; 1–2 years of related civil engineering experience is required for more experienced engineers.
