The General Laborer supports various skilled trades/crafts involved in diverse construction projects such as new constructions, renovations, additions, and more. General laborers employ a range of tools and specialized equipment. Tasks may involve site tidying, material handling, loading and unloading, as well as distributing materials and fixtures, among other assignments. Role responsibilities depend on specific work assignments, project types, and construction phases.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports other skilled trades by loading, unloading, and distributing materials as instructed.
  • Participates in disassembling and transporting construction materials.
  • Ensures daily collection and disposal of accumulated trash on and around the job site.
  • Performs general cleaning and trash removal duties for the job site trailer.
  • Cleans and maintains concrete and forming tools.
  • Operates pumps and equipment for site dewatering requirements.
  • Organizes and cleans conex containers and gang boxes on a daily basis.
  • Manages construction gate duty and flagging responsibilities.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrates precision, thoroughness, and timeliness in work performance.
  • Possesses effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capable of recognizing common construction materials and equipment.
  • Maintains punctual attendance and reliability.
  • Shows a willingness to learn and follows instructions diligently.
  • Accomplishes assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibits a positive and cooperative demeanor.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates effectively within team settings, both internally and externally.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with apprentice, vocational, technical, or trade training. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Preferred 0-2 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • May encounter extreme environmental conditions (hot or cold).
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours as project demands require.
  • Reliable transportation is essential.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in narrow spaces, and various depths such as trenches.
  • Regular activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, carrying, swinging, reaching above shoulder height, pushing, pulling, and balancing.
  • Occasional sitting and computer screen viewing may be required.
  • Specific environmental and physical demands may vary depending on project location and type.
  • Ensures accurate material identification and compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Safely and effectively operates a buck hoist.
  • Assists with demolition operations.
  • Ensures compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations and adheres to OSHA standards.
  • Abides by all safety standards set by the company.
  • Expected behavioral standards include:
    • Punctuality and readiness to work as scheduled.
    • Timely communication of absences or tardiness to the supervisor.
    • Demonstrates respect for oneself and others.
    • Prioritizes safety in all tasks.
    • Maintains a positive and proactive attitude.
