The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is seeking a skilled and motivated Dental Assistant to support our dental team in delivering high‑quality oral healthcare to patients of all ages. This position plays an essential role in ensuring efficient clinic operations by providing chairside assistance to dental providers, preparing treatment rooms, maintaining infection control standards, and supporting patient comfort throughout dental procedures.
Depending on clinic needs, this role may also assist with dental supply and inventory management, ensuring the dental team has the materials, equipment, and sterile instruments necessary for daily patient care.
The ideal candidate is a detail‑oriented and organized dental professional who thrives in a fast‑paced clinical environment and is passionate about providing excellent patient care. Candidates should be comfortable assisting with dental procedures, taking diagnostic X‑rays, maintaining sterilization protocols, documenting patient information, and supporting overall dental clinic operations.
Applicants claiming Indian Preference must complete the full application and must provide documentation verifying eligibility (such as a tribal enrollment card or Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB)).
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
1.1 Clinical Dental Assistant Duties- Receives and prepares patients for dental exam or treatment.
- Sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists the dentist during dental procedures.
- Assists in the sterilization of instruments. Maintains equipment and instruments by properly cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and storing them.
- Ensures thorough disinfection of all clinical areas and high‑touch points.
- Records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
- Exposes quality dental diagnostic X-rays for patient charts.
- Creates preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
- Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations.
- Assists the dentist in managing medical and dental emergencies.
- Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
- Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
- Applies a protective fluoride coating to teeth as prescribed by the dentist.
- Records treatment information in patient records.
- Prepare all needed equipment and/or instruments for the next day’s clinic.
- Monitors, orders, and maintains adequate inventory of dental supplies to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
- Organizes, labels, and rotates stock to maintain proper supply levels and ensure compliance with expiration dates.
- Prepares and sets up sterile trays for next‑day procedures in accordance with clinical schedules and infection control standards.
- Performs routine maintenance, safety checks, and documentation for all dental treatment chairs and related equipment.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining clinical storage areas for efficiency and compliance.
- Collaborates with clinical staff to anticipate supply needs and procedural setups.
- Supports the dental team in ensuring all clinical areas meet infection control and safety standards.
- Serves as a backup to the clinical dental assistant team.
