Overview
Position Summary:
Responsible for the routine operation of the library media center. Assists the library media specialist with office/clerical duties, locating, circulating and shelving library materials, textbooks, and equipment. Supports the mission of the Library and Instructional Media Program, and promotes access to library resources by providing technical assistance to the library media specialist and assistance to teachers, students, and other patrons.
- Assists with creating a welcoming environment by keeping the library books clean, attractive, organized and clutter-free; creates and maintains attractive library displays; provides readers advisory by suggesting fiction and nonfiction titles to students.
- Assists with cataloging and circulating materials; circulates library books, textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment; processes/interlibrary loan requests in Destiny Library Manager; processes textbook transfer requests in Destiny Resource Manager; gathers materials for teachers and shelves books.
- Assists with reports to monitor obligations (overdue and lost), library and textbook inventory.
- Assists students and teachers with access to OKCPS online resources in Destiny, Discovery Education streaming, EBSCO, GALE, Pebble Go, Pebble Go Next , Pebble Go Creat, SORA, , and World Book Online.
- Performs daily operational tasks to support the library’s function, including maintaining a welcoming environment and assisting with readers advisory.
- Assists with cataloging and circulating materials; handles interlibrary loan and textbook transfers; gathers materials for teachers and shelves books.
- Maintains library and textbook inventory and prepares related reports.
- Facilitates access to OKCPS online resources for students and staff across multiple platforms.
- Assists students with technology-related needs.
- Assigns devices to students; checks out and checks in devices (Incident IQ); creates device requests; if a device is damaged, submits tickets for repair.
- Performs troubleshooting steps for devices; connects iPads and Chromebooks to OKCPS networks; troubleshoots charging issues; coordinates with Client Services for advanced issues; supports students in resolving technical problems.
- Manages device inventory, including verification of returned devices, reporting lost/missing/stolen devices, labeling, and maintaining chargers and inventory at the school site; designates pick-up/drop-off areas for devices with tickets.
- Provides policy guidance for personal care and primary use of student devices (no personal modifications to devices such as stickers).
- High School Diploma or GED required plus one of the following:
- Associate’s Degree or higher;
Completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of college study;
Passed the OGET test;
Passed the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment Test (passing score 455) or the Work Keys Assessment (passing score 4 or better on all three parts).
- Associate’s Degree or higher;
- Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries; ability to fill out forms; knowledge of grammatical structure and vocabulary for preparing correspondence; communicates in clear, grammatically correct English.
- Ability to learn and share with students and staff the use of computer applications, electronic databases and web-based programs.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions to meet business needs and deadlines.
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.
