Physical Therapist Assistant Adjunct Professor

Applicants are required to attach the following documents: cover letter, resume, transcript of highest degree, and a copy of the current unencumbered Oklahoma Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant license.

General Description

An adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, encouraging student success, and promoting the mission of the division and the College as a whole.

Reports to:

Dean of the Division of Health Professions and the PTA Program Director. No subordinates.

Minimum Education al Requirement

Associate's degree.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of an Associate’s degree. A Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant with an unencumbered license in Oklahoma.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated clinical skills in the course taught.
  • Positive human relations and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles.
  • Committed to helping students achieve their goals.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn computer programs such as Moodle.
  • Organization and attention to detail.
  • Support and willingness to teach in a competency-based instructional system.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues.
  • Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand content to assist students with difficulties.
  • Ability to interact effectively and encouragingly with students individually and in groups.
  • Availability for office hours and methods of communication with supervisors.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Medium work: occasional exertion up to 50 pounds; frequent exertion up to 20 pounds; constant exertion up to 10 pounds. Frequent communication and instruction to students. Frequent movement in classroom and lab. Standing and stationary positions. Operation of equipment with repetitive hand motions. Use of computer and other office equipment. Perception by touch. Positioning to work with classroom and lab equipment.

Visual acuity for judging work accuracy. Indoor classroom, office, and lab environment. Exposure to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, high heat, chemicals.

Job Duties

Primary responsibility: supporting student learning by providing quality instruction, including clear objectives, prepared activities, effective presentations, fair grading, timely responses, and a positive classroom atmosphere.

Additional duties:

  • Contribute to developing, implementing, and evaluating academic programs.
  • Fulfill course, program, and department goals.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Respond promptly to information requests from administrators.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Acquire new knowledge and skills related to the discipline.
  • Maintain relevant professional license or certification.
  • Complete special assignments as mutually agreed.
  • Support the PTA Program’s, College’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities.

Courses that may be taught include:

  • PTA 1201 Pediatric Development, Conditions and Treatment
  • PTA 1211 Geriatric Conditions and Treatment
Safety / Policy & Procedures

Abide by Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational and working environment.

Adhere to safety and health procedures. Complete quarterly health and safety training. Participate in emergency drills and assist others during emergencies.
