Position Summary
The mission of the Idaho 4-H program is to help youth acquire knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that enhance their lives. This position will address our mission by providing support for the 4‑H youth development programming in Blaine County, confirming program is reaching all clientele. Establish and maintain a good working relationship with youth, parents, 4‑H volunteers, and community partners to ensure the continued support for after school/enrichment 4‑H activities, STEM focused camps, summer day camps, and community 4‑H clubs.
This position will also assist with and provide support for the organization/operation of county 4‑H/Youth summer activities and events including educational presentations, education days, overnight camps, and day Camps. The 4‑H Summer assistant will also provide support with the county fair and livestock events. Hours are flexible but must meet programming needs and will most often be 20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, with some evenings and weekends required.
This position is directly supervised the Blaine County 4‑H Educator. The position is located at the University of Idaho Blaine County Extension Office. Person must have reliable transportation to meet all program needs.
Job Duty Function Manage the 4‑H Summer Program by:
- Assist with county fair and livestock events including species weigh ins, contacting judges, creating class sheets, livestock shows, and gathering supplies for the week of fair. Availability during the Blaine County Fair is mandatory.
- Assist with and provide support for the organization/operation of county 4‑H/Youth summer activities and events including educational presentations, education days, overnight camps, and day Camps.
- Supervise children in activities/programs and ensure their safety.
- Serve as a resource person for activities/programs.
- Assist with leadership and training for youth and volunteers.
- Attend in‑service training(s) when necessary.
- Submit records of program participation/evaluation, submit timesheet and travel reimbursement, etc. as required to Supervisor.
- Maintain regular contact with the 4‑H Youth Development Educator.
- Perform other duties as assigned under supervision as required for successful operation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Experience with 4‑H community club programs.
- Experience with county fairs and livestock.
- Experience using a computer for data entry and word processing.
- Ability to pass a background check and handle confidential information on Youth & Adults.
- Experience communicating with youth, parents, and Extension professionals.
- Demonstrated interest and ability to work with youth.
- Demonstrated responsibility and leadership skills.
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move training supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple worksites across county.
