Summer Quest Purpose

Francis Tuttle Summer Quest one-week camps are meant to be fun and educational while at the same time serving as an introduction to Francis Tuttle Career Training programs. The main goal is to utilize the camp as a launch pad for the students to enroll in a Francis Tuttle program when they become eligible. As part of the hiring process, we ask all applicants to share details on the Summer Quest class they intend to teach if selected for the position.

Primary

Function Of Position

Plans, leads, and implements a summer camp program for students ages 11-15. Provides high quality educational opportunities and enjoyable experiences which will mirror programs offered at Francis Tuttle. Creates and implements lesson plans that align with Francis Tuttle Career Training Programs for the week of class.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supervises classroom and ensures campers safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Attends required training sessions made available before Summer Quest starts.
  • Creates lesson plans and activities that align with a Francis Tuttle Career Training Program for the entire week of Summer Quest.
  • Coordinates daily activities including lesson plans for a full week of Summer Quest learning.
  • Leads various group activities as well as a culminating activity to include guardian of student on the final day of the week-long Summer Quest.
  • Coordinates with Summer Quest Facilitator and CRD staff regarding timing for breaks, lunches and special activities.
  • Provides expectations and rules for students to follow in order to alleviate discipline issues. Reports to CRD staff or SQ Facilitator challenges with discipline or particular students in a timely manner.
  • Assists, as needed, for small incidents and completes an accident report form as well as notifying Summer Quest Facilitator immediately.
  • Ability to be present on the job as described under working conditions and contract details.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18 years of age to apply.
  • Classroom teaching experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and direction.
  • Ability and desire to maintain/manage an efficient, well organized classroom area.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication demonstrated in both letter and email.
  • Ability to understand and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment by prioritizing tasks and projects.
  • Strong flexibility, time management, and organizational skills are a must.
  • Ability to consistently deliver superior customer service and work quality to internal and external customers.
Working Conditions

Long periods of sitting and standing. Ability to lift 10-25 lbs. Concentrated visual effort is required. Extensive communication with internal and external customers. Reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. This is not an exhaustive list and reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.

Potential work locations include Francis Tuttle-Rockwell Campus, Francis Tuttle-Danforth and Putnam City-Capps Middle School.

Organizational Relationship

Temporary personnel position reports directly to the Career Readiness & Development Manager.

Working Days And Hours

Working days are June 2nd 5th (week one), June 9th 12th (week two), June 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th (week three) and June 23rd-26th (week four). Working hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm, 28 hours/week.

Hourly Rates Are As Follows
  • Current Francis Tuttle Instructor - $55/hr
  • Certified Teacher (Non-Francis Tuttle Instructor) - $40/hr
  • Non-Certified Teacher (Non-Francis Tuttle Instructor) - $25/hr

Hours worked June 1st through June 15th will be paid on June 30th.

Hours worked June 16th through June 26th will be paid on July 31st.
