This position supports adult Spanish‑speaking learners enrolled in the Spanish‑language HSE program. This part‑time role focuses on academic and linguistic support to help students navigate their pathway to a high school equivalency diploma and guide them in the next steps once they receive their HSE diploma.
This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.
Job Duties- Provide tutoring and academic coaching in Spanish for HiSET subject areas.
- Guide students through account creation and test registration in Spanish.
- Support orientations and classroom onboarding for new Spanish HSE students.
- Assist with computer‑based learning tools and instructional platforms.
- Check in with students to encourage attendance and academic progress.
- Help students build confidence in test‑taking and digital navigation.
- Coordinate with instructors to identify and support students needing extra help.
- Assist the coordinator in student guidance and student success activities.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment for Spanish‑speaking learners.
- Knowledge of Spanish‑language HSE curriculum and testing (HiSET in Spanish).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Digital literacy and basic instructional technology use.
- Ability to support non‑native English speakers.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Minimum (1) year work experience supporting non‑native English speaking HSE students in an Adult Education program.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum (1) year work experience related to academic and career coaching in an Adult education setting.
- Minimum (1) year work experience supporting students in computer‑based test‑taking and digital navigation for HSE exams.
Light work requiring occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. The role requires frequent movement around campus, communication, computer use, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, including evenings and weekends; flexibility is required.
Work HoursVariable part‑time schedule (up to 25 hours/week); flexible within program needs.
Safety and Policy Compliance- Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
- Contribute to a safe educational and working environment.
- Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices.
- Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established procedures.
- Participate in all applicable emergency drills and be prepared to assist others.
