Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the classroom teacher or principal, assists the teacher in performing daily classroom tasks and performs other related duties as assigned. This position conveys the Church’s message and assists in carrying out the Church’s mission, upholding Catholic Church standards in day‑to‑day work and personal life.
Employees are expected to follow rules of conduct that protect the interests and safety of all, including standards and policies set forth in the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct, Archdiocesan Policies and Guidelines, Parent/Student Handbook and Employee Handbook.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma.
- Knowledge of and ability to use English correctly and appropriately.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of operation of A/V equipment.
- Ability to keep accurate records in a timely manner.
- Willingness to work with children of all ages.
- Ability to work independently.
- General knowledge of the instructional process.
- Positive attitude, team cooperation, and performance for maintaining the instructional process and well‑being of the school.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Professional communication with staff, students, parents, and community.
- Previous experience in a school setting.
- Experience working with students and parents.
- Ability to meet and interact with the public and employees with tact, courtesy and discretion.
- Independent judgment in application of standard practices and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
- Follow the school’s discipline policy for students.
- Maintain an orderly and safe work environment free of hazards.
- Act in a professional manner in demeanor and work habits.
- Assist students in mastering instructional purposes.
- Actively supervise students.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and tutor students.
- Work well with children.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, other staff members, and volunteers.
- Respond well to supervision and direction from teacher or principal.
- Follow policies and regulations of the Archdiocese and school.
- In the absence of the teacher, assume responsibility for students.
- Adapt easily to work assignments and handle special tasks when asked.
- Manage student behavior constructively in accordance with discipline policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and DemandsNot limited to the following:
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
This job operates in a classroom environment and duties may be performed outside in inclement weather conditions.
TravelTravel is required as needed to attend workshops and in‑service trainings sponsored by the Archdiocese and others approved by the principal.
