Position Overview

University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for two full‑time Renewable Term Lecturer positions (9‑month academic year contract with 3 months summer required) to teach in the Master of Arts in Museum Studies program. Positions begin in January 2025 (spring semester) or August 2025 (fall semester) and are located in Norman, Oklahoma.

Teaching and Service Expectations

Standard distribution of effort is 80% teaching and 20% service. The teaching load is 80% of a 4:4 (9‑month) or 4:4:2 (12‑month) schedule, typically 8 classes per year: 3 fall, 3 spring, and 2 summer. Remaining 20% involves departmental and university service.

Specialized Teaching Areas
  • Museum Management, Administration, Leadership within a Science, Natural History, or Technology Museum
  • Museum Collection Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Management within a Science, Natural History, or Technology Museum
  • Technology for museum professionals (website development, database management, virtual reality, makerspaces, 2D/3D scanning)
  • Digital collections (digitization, metadata development, technology for digital collections)
  • Audience engagement and programming in science, natural history, or technology museums
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Earned Ph.D. with a focus on Museum Studies (applicable from Library and Information Science, History, Anthropology, Geology, Fine Arts, and others).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching graduate students.
  • Experience teaching in an online, asynchronous format.
