Elementary English Language Arts Coordinator

Position Summary

Lead the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the English language arts curriculum and instructional efforts. Collaborate with district- and site-level staff to ensure articulation across the district.

Essential Duties
1. Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure)
  • Supervise, coordinate, and assist in the development, implementation, articulation, and pedagogical support for K-4 curriculum
  • Construct district-level assessments that are aligned to the district assessment plan
  • Assist site administrators, lead teachers, and teachers in the implementation of curricular programs and improvement of instructional practices
2. Great People (Talent Management)
  • Provide opportunities for effective staff development that address the needs of the English language arts instructional program including workshops, professional learning communities (PLCs), and modeling lessons
  • Organize and facilitate lead teacher meetings to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program of the schools
  • Continue professional growth through self‑directed and defined professional development opportunities, which may include additional training, PLCs, outside research, and reading professional literature
  • Provide leadership and articulate the district‑wide vision for the elementary English language arts instructional, curricular, and professional development initiatives
  • Analyze and use data to identify district needs and to evaluate, improve, and report on program effectiveness
4. Great Systems (Support & Accountability)
  • Develop and implement procedures for selecting state‑adopted textbooks and other instructional materials
  • Keep abreast of most current research and state/national information regarding English language arts to lead the district in best practices
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to enhance instruction and improve opportunities and achievement for all students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Job Specifications

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities)
  • Master's degree in reading, literacy, English, curriculum and instruction, or a related education field
  • Valid Oklahoma teaching or administrative certificate
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience in literacy at the elementary level (teaching experience at several levels and additional experience in instructional leadership is preferred)
  • In‑depth knowledge of best practices and current research in standards, curriculum, instructional practices and strategies, and a well‑balanced assessment system
  • Strong articulation, with exceptional oral and written communication skills, and the ability to adjust depending on the audience
  • Promote a positive climate and culture for learning
  • Flexible thinker and willingness to accept new ideas and constructive feedback for personal, professional, and program growth and development
  • Take initiative, detail‑oriented, and highly organized
  • Capable of working independently and prioritizing tasks in a team‑oriented and collaborative environment
  • Possess strong leadership traits with the ability to lead people and provide direction
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to private transportation to travel to sites
  • Competency in appropriate computer skills and other related technologies

  • * Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore, for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
  • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
  • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
